Seiko Prospex Speedtimer Mechanical Datsun 240Z Limited Edition SPB517
Inspired by one of the world's most iconic rally cars
Designed for those who treat life as the ultimate adventure, the Seiko Prospex line meets every challenge with technological excellence and style. This new Limited Edition Speedtimer Mechanical is inspired by the legendary Datsun 240Z rally car, and is powered by Seiko's own 6R55 automatic movement. Unique to this reference is a crown at 4:00, which operates an inner rotating countdown bezel, used to measure key intervals in motorsports competitions, such as the time remaining before the start and target durations for tasks such as tire changes and refueling.
Inspired by the color of rally cars, which minimizes light reflection, the matte black dial is finished with sporty red accents to enhance legibility. The Arabic numerals on the dial ring take inspiration from the font used on the Datsun 240Z dashboard.
Launched in 1969, the Datsun 240Z became a worldwide hit, not only in Japan but also in North America. With the aim of demonstrating its high performance as a sports car, the Datsun 240Z began to participate in world rally competitions. Seiko, sharing Datsun’s spirit for taking on challenges, supported the Datsun 240Z in motorsports activities in the early 1970s.
